Service Description

Mondays, 8:30pm - 9:30pm November 27 - December 18 For the first time, HVSD will be offering a mini course concentrated on Charleston! A predecessor of, an influence on, the Lindy Hop, this dance style first appeared in Black communities in the southern United States around 1903 or earlier, and is believed to be based on an African dance called Juba. By the 1920s it was a mainstream dance craze associated with flappers that was even featured on Broadway. Over 100 years later, it is still popular among swing dancers everywhere. It can be danced both solo and with a partner, as well as blended into lindy hop. There are countless styles and variations of this fun dance and we will be going over some of our favorites that you can use at social dances. Charleston is an energetic, bouncy, syncopated dance - so wear comfortable shoes that don't have a lot of grip, clothes you can sweat in, and bring water to stay hydrated. You do not need a partner or prior experience to sign up. Minimum of 10 students required for the session to run $105 per person for full course includes 4 classes, entry to our social dance on Dec 16 at TDC, plus access to recap videos.
