Fridays, 8:30pm - 9:30pm September 22 - December 22* Sign up for the next session of HVSD’s Solo Jazz course! Build solo jazz vocabulary, skill, and style while learning the Shim Sham, Tranky Doo & Big Apple vintage dance routines popularized by the late great Ambassador of Swing, Frankie Manning. All are now danced socially at swing events worldwide. Now, Kelly & Tank will be breaking them down step by step. The Shim Sham is a practical place to start building your repertoire of solo jazz moves and variations. Next, the Tranky Doo will introduce some new moves and rhythms. Finally, the Big Apple will expand on your solo jazz knowledge and take it to a new, energetic level. This course includes 12 classes (8pm on Fridays Sept 22-Dec 22), entry to our 3 corresponding monthly social dances at TDC (every 3rd Saturday), as well as lesson recap videos Minimum of 10 students registered by Sept 22 required for the session to run $275 per person for full course includes 12 lessons & entry to our monthly social dances on Oct 21, Nov 18, & Dec 16 $25 for drop ins per person per class (does not include entry to social dances) No partner needed to do this course Wear comfortable clothes and shoes All welcome regardless of previous dance experience What is Solo Jazz? Sometimes called Authentic Jazz, Vernacular Jazz, or Jazz Roots, it is a style of dancing without a partner which developed alongside jazz music in the early 20th century, often adapting moves from tap dance & Lindy Hop** Note: The session may not cover all of these routines in their entirety and the following session will pick up wherever this one leaves off **Sources: vintage-tap-and-swing.co.uk & silverscreendance.co.uk *No class on October 6 or November 24
